A region that leaves you in no doubt: ‘This is Australia’

BLESSED BY NATURE: THE WHITSUNDAYS

The Whitsunday region of Queensland embodies everything that Australians hold dear about our cherished way of life.

Nature supplies the elements: The air of freedom, wide open spaces, sunshine and the colourful mix of sweeping blue skies, mature green forests, long golden sands and calm crystal waters. Carlisle Waters offers all these in abundance.

Not only does this region consist of endless beautiful, sub-tropical landscapes, it also extends offshore to the magical Whitsunday islands – part of the Great Barrier Reef. Some islands are household names, such as Hamilton, Hayman, Daydream, South Molle, Long and Lindeman, and are home to international resorts; others may be less well known but are no less spectacular and, together, more than 70 of them form an extensive aquatic playground for locals and visitors.

Among the region’s assets is Peter Faust Dam, commissioned in 1990 with a capacity of 500,000 mega litres and covering 4,350 hectares. The dam was first stocked in 1996 with barramundi, sooty grunter and sleepy cod and catches of large fish well over a metre in length are not uncommon. Water-skiing, camping and boating at the dam add to the fun. Also on hand is the 19,500 hectare Goorganga Plain wetlands, south-east of Proserpine, which are a gathering place for thousands of migratory birds.

Whitsundays, Perfectly Placed

Entirely at your service, in every possible way

On these natural foundations, people have created the services they need to live well: Public and private schools, hospitals and ancillary medical services, travel connections by air, road and rail, employment opportunities, shops and places to eat and drink and facilities for sport and recreation, both on and off the water. Carlisle Waters and its surrounding region are well provided with essential and optional services.

Midge Point has excellent local infrastructure, including a tavern/bistro and the Laguna Plaza shopping centre, containing a post office, laundromat, hair salon, general store, real estate office, takeaway and electrical contractor. Nearby, there is an RACQ depot, holiday cabins, rural supplies and a caravan and camping park.

Of course, you don’t need a city to live more than comfortably but, if you occasionally yearn for the attractions of larger-city living, then fast-growing Mackay – currently Australia’s 22nd city by size with more than 80,000 people and 25 resident nationalities – is just 50 minutes’ drive to the south.

Other regional centres include Bowen (60 minutes, population 9,300), Airlie Beach (30 minutes, 8,800) and Proserpine (20 minutes, 3,800), while Townsville (190,000) is three hours to the north. A 15-minute drive takes you to Whitsunday (Proserpine) airport and onwards by air to Brisbane and Sydney.

In regional terms, Midge Point shares the tourism and hospitality infrastructures of Airlie Beach, with its multiple large shopping centres and established industrial, commercial, retail and restaurant precincts. Cafes and eateries complement bowling and sailing clubs, an RSL and lively nightlife. Two large marinas include a ferry terminal, commercial boating and yachting and private berths.

Educational alternatives include public and private infants, primary and high schools, TAFE campuses at Cannonvale and Mackay and Central Queensland University, also at Mackay. The region offers public hospitals at Proserpine, Bowen, Collinsville, Mackay and Townsville and private hospitals at Mackay and Townsville. Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) attracts many leading performers as they tour Australia.

CARLISLE WATERS: READY TO WELCOME YOU

One region; so many reasons to make it your home

Carlisle Waters offers access to all the lifestyle benefits available in this magnificent region of Queensland. Its natural and man-made assets – diversity, beauty, skilful planning and first-rate facilities – make Carlisle Waters ideal for people in many walks and stages of life. Among others, these include:

  • Families seeking to benefit from the affordability of Carlisle Waters, where blocks of land up to twice the area of those available in Mackay can be purchased for up to $100,000 less than prices demanded in that city.
  • Families seeking a more tranquil lifestyle, away from traffic snarls in Mackay and other centres.
  • Families involved in Bowen Basin mining and based, for example, on the Gold or Sunshine coasts who are keen to escape the stressful “fly-in, fly-out” (FIFO) lifestyle where valuable family time is frequently lost to travel at the start and end of shifts.
  • Young families drawn to the Whitsundays for employment in the booming tourism industry.
  • Retirees looking for a comfortable coastal location to use as a home base for their “grey nomad” adventures.

Carlisle Waters provides the unique retirement/holiday lifestyle you have been seeking but, until now, have been unable to find. Blessed by nature and enhanced by man, this is an idyllic location you really can call your home.

Whitsundays quays to unlock new opportunities

Set in this fast-growing region, Carlisle Waters opens up special opportunities for those looking to capitalise on that growth by investing in real estate or seeking to create a secure future for themselves through their new retirement home.

Midge Point is in precisely the right location to benefit from the proposed redevelopment of the nearby 1800-hectare resort property of Laguna Quays, five minutes’ drive from Carlisle Waters. Having closed its doors in 2012 but now under new ownership, a re-development plan seeks to create a $2.8 billion, fully integrated resort at Laguna Quays. The new golf and marina resort is envisaged as providing a strong drawcard to the area, creating significant additional leisure, trade and, importantly, employment opportunities for the wider community and lending a flow-on stimulus for additional infrastructure.

Owner Fullshare Group managing director Mr Yi Yu has said the resort, when complete, will be one of the largest in Queensland. “As such, it will complement and work with other existing Whitsunday resorts in helping the entire region realise its true potential as one of Queensland’s best tourism areas,” he said.

Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited chief executive officer Danial Rochford said the proposed re-development would be a major boost to the wider region. “There is no doubt investment in tourism infrastructure of a significant nature only helps the tourism industry as a whole,” he said.
